: Hey MLBians... wow been so long since I came here le.. really had a tough time with my FYP but now it's sorta over :) just left with some smaller details and preparation for grad show in June. Hope everyone's doing fine here.
I guess nowadays, facebook is the way to go (in fact i joined kinda late) but well, just in case mlbians didn't know, the 3 of us have accounts there :)

i guess that's the big question. Well, for now, I'm gonna back Nic up at Echo Music China Town as his side-kick! Gonna be teaching keyboard classes there from now on :D just a little inside info, i am working on the beatboxing syllabus too so that I can start a vocal percussion course at echo too. :p

So to summarize...
Nic and Wei Qi teaching at Echo music chinatown.
Sam teaching drums at pomo and creative kids lessons too.
MLB is down due to hardware issues (white pony is constantly acting up, and now my laptop can't enter windows due to hardware failure, called the repair center up but they say need to change whole motherboard for a ridiculous price...)

Little people know that a pick can alter your entire sound.. from 20% - 60%

This kinda a love hate relationship for me.. each pick cost ard 5 - 15 sgd .. got 2 diff ones in my artillery.. The fender's added to my armoury now operationally ready!! ORD! haha.. Love the thickness of sound on this thing (due thickness 3 50cent coins for one of the models).. hate because of the "clicking" sound caused by thick picks' meterial fiberglassish kinda resin.

Oh well.. guess I'm talking too much music..

In pop industry must talk more on how interesting my life is.. Being in the media light etc etc.. OOPS.

Hi mlbians! thank you for helping us with all the voting and for the strong support always! :)
The good news is that since "吃下宇宙" was 2nd on the 全球华语歌曲排行旁 last friday night, our albums will be sent to overseas radio stations to be played on air.
Congratulations to the whole MLB family because we did it together! It was a super joint effort once again between MLBians and MLB and all supporters and friends! Not forgetting all production/behind the scenes peeps who helped us thus far. Everyone pls take care and strive on always, never give up! 'Fighting!'

p.s. someone asked how mlb got 2nd rite? haha.. it's cos of all of the ppl mentioned above. Thank you!

Thanks all for buying our album.. anyway to clear up..

more album sales not really equals more income for the band.. it gives the band a better portfolio for future ventures.. the bulk of money goes back to investors who threw in loads of cash for the production.. they have to take back somewhere..

It took lots of faith.. and lots of money thrown in.. we're appreciative of that ever so much..

We're hoping for good sales to assure people that music is a possible investment in singapore..

To sum up.. artistes are always struggling if we're SG based. WE ARE. It's due to the the typical mindset that foreign products are better. Which may be true. WHY???

We are not full time PAID artistes. To set the record straight.. we're part time.. NOT TRAINED. NOT GROOMED.. NOT FINANCIALLY ASSISTED. Learning through experience and elder's (of the trade's) guidance.. Honing our skills as we go along.. throwing in our every cent into passion.

Sidetrack.. example : my Mac white was a "donation" by my dad. I couldn't afford the purchase personally.

I've learnt much through this journey. How long more can passion last me? Checking ATMs for my next Giro pay? Hoping my cheques goes through to last me the next mth?

It's an irony, my smile on the stage and how it simmers away when off stage.. Only when the music is on, the smile unknowingly appears again.

I feel guilty for being me.

I feel grateful that so many people are behind us.

The greatest joy that SS show night was the screams so loudly heard on TV...

The greatest joy for me is to bring joy on stage. I hope to be able to continue to do so.. to sing if i may.. to make music if i may.. to inspire if I may..

And God help me survive and keep myself afloat and sane while doing so..

Not letting myself down, being who I am, but a better me to come.

If I have to be an ARTISTE to be an ARTIST. I will have to give it a go.

wow, today felt like a gathering instead.. cos so many mlbians turned up. thanks to all who came! and also not forgetting yuan ping for helping despite her fyp. it really touched the 3 of us, and we're really thankful for having supporters like you all. thank you all for the presents(we know that most of u are students so dun need presents), but the greatest present is your support, so we're more than happy le. Take care u all, and thank you all for helping with the voting(long hu bang) too!

quite a number of u asked about the mac, and what we are going to do about the issue. We understand your concern and good intentions, but we will not want any of you or our friends and family to go to the expense of aiding us in this area, because it is not dealing with the root of the problem. It is the responsibility of our band and band management to handle such technical issues. For the past 3 years, the equipment of the band has been built upon our shows/savings and our self-studying(going online to read up etc.) and in order for the band to continue striving to greater heights, the issue has to be solved, and not covered up.

anyone can guess what this is?

yep, so clever la u all.. that's my tail.. monday when i reported for reservice, first thing the staff sergeant said was "all the guys who just came from the set of 风云 please go cut your long and colourful hair..." and well.. i think my hair was the most colourful and long le.. i presented a letter to him that asked that I be excused (letter from mediacorp), then he said "is this letter for me? ok thanks. when you're here, 在这十一天内你是我的人了." Sooooo cut the long story short..now i look very different from the last time you peeps saw me haha... monday night went down to shunji matsuo's saloon and had my hair cut and dyed black :D
p.s. my staff sergeants are great guys, they are just doing their job, and in SG, the government is the biggest le, so if they say cut hair = cut hair :)
actually i'm feeling really fine! why? cos i miss my hair this short.. super leng.. like my character :)

now now, more about the training.. things have been ok la, just that i'm not physically fit le, so a bit tiring on my side. wanted to do some fyp work every nite but having to wake up at 0530 to book in every early morning is making my eyes heavy..

Hi all, my apologies for MIAing a while.. well,besides the flu(thanks for the best wishes), some crazy changes at school, my crib was kinda messed up again, so i needed some time to get things back in place.. did not check my email for bout 3 days too :p also been packing my stuff for dreaded reservice! not that i don miss my camp and all the crazy stuff we do.. but.. i don feel physically ready. :(
kinda sad cos i'm not physicallyt prepared for the training.. but well, should be ok de ba..

Developer's Diary #1 + Press Con Grp photo :D

: Hi all, and welcome to part one of our special report... the developer's diary.. sorta.. haha..

As mentioned in the interviews, this time round, our songs all follow a central theme, which is food. But food is used as an analogy, because: it ties in so tightly with us Singaporeans, it helps describe different flavours of music, it helps describe a setting or mood, it is something that everyone understands because everybody has to eat, it reflects on the relationship between the people sharing the meal together ETC.
In our opinion, it was the strongest theme amongst the many themes we had, so we came out with many stories, and then we decided to write songs as a medium to tell these stories.
So food was the theme that led to many issues and scenarios (literal food was not the subject, we were not talking about particular dishes) and hence the birth of the songs.
Next, we were asked to help to think of more album concepts, and at first I came up with an ice-cream cum lacoste pastel colours concept, but after reviewing the compos we made, I felt that MLB's 3rd album consists of more emotional songs than fast, energetic ones. So the ice-cream concept was withdrawn (keep for next time hehe) and a new idea was being formulated. Later on, we got introduced to Xiao Ye lao shi(a respected player in the industry who wrote the lyrics for 冷晚餐 as well as the MV director for 吃下宇宙, super multi-talented man), and after reading his lyrics, I was inspired and it led on to a whole new concept = The Big Banquet/Feast.

What is 'The Big Banquet'? Basically, the album represented a banquet of songs, of different variety of tastes, carefully prepared by the chefs and waiters of an imaginary mansion of music, and the 3 hosts, invited everyone to come taste and feast on the (initially) 10 course meal. Thus the theme of food or a banquet was brought to life. Meanwhile, there was a decision made by the production team, that the look of MLB should go up another level, and we should be more matured than our 2nd album. At this point of time, this is how we looked :)

*Forgot to mention that this picture is when we were testing our fitting, thus the mugshot pose, in fact nic was the only one not wearing his shoes, only socks, that's why i removed the lower part. It is not from an official shoot, but just for archiving, considered as behind the scene.*

Coming back to the album, I had a goal in mind, which was that this time round, I wanted the album to be 'INTERACTIVE' whereby people would really hold the album in their palms and flip it open and close, fold it around.. basically look at it like it were a beautiful crafted origami rather than your usual traditional album. So I came out with the following idea:

Announcements... IC change

mlb : Hi MLBians, this announcement comes a little late due to album production.. but here goes!

Our dear ICs, Yuan Ping, Biru and Mei Kian have been helping all of us here, both MLB and MLBians for such a long time le.. and as we all grow up together, we have certain responsibilities we have to uphold and new challenges to face. Thus, Mei Kian and Biru have informed me that they will be stepping down from their post, to concentrate on their work and studies, at the same time allowing others to have the chance to take up the role of helping MLB and guiding the MLB family.
It has been our pleasure to have ICs like the 3 of them, and I thank all MLBians on their behalf who have helped them and cooperated with them. They have been really helpful, from helping to organize events(family reunions etc) to tee-shirt collection coordination etc. So pls applaud them!

So right now, we have Yuan Ping left to hold the fort(jiayo gal!), and thus we are looking for 1 or 2 more helpers to come abroad, to be a big sister or big brother to the rest, and to help MLB with the upcoming events and activities. If you're interested to take up this role, pls write in to milubing@gmail.com with a short paragraph on why you wanna take up the role and how you are suitable for the post. The band will forward the emails to an in-charge who will then revert back to us with the details and the announcement will be made here on the blog.

: Ok, I was thinking to myself that day, that actually I should start a "developer's diary" kinda thingy here on the blog, because there is more work done prior to this 3rd album. For eg. I have some concepts and drawings/sketches that I did for the album, which was all done for MLBians, and so why shouldn't you peeps get to see em? Yup, so I've decided, that I should start a short series based on the 2months when I was still heading the concept art for this album. I think even though the concepts weren't used in the end, it is not really the results that matter sometimes, but the process. Singaporeans are really result oriented (thus the lack of care for late bloomers), and tend to undermine the importance of the process. So anyways, guess I'll be doing up some posts here, so stay tuned oki? :) Take care you all! MLBians rock!

: hello.. long time no post le. Been so busy with this album production till i burnt out bout 2 weeks ago. This is the first time that i'm so involved in the 'non-music' aspect of the production and the 1st time in my 3 plus years in uni that i didn't manage to juggle my school work while being part of the band. Since august, i have been going about my life as though i was a full time music artiste cum album concept artist... didn't attend my fyp class at school for a really long time till the profs started mailing me about my absence from class. I really wanted to make this album the BEST it could be thus my neglect for my school work. On the second week of October, the whistle was blown by the referee and I was substituted. So now I'm recuperating and have actually started doing my school work le :)
I have done what I could, my very best, to bring the album to a certain level.. now it is up to the other players in the game. Jiayo to my team mates, and may they score eventually! Now I am back to status quo, student and music guy in MLB just like nic and sam. Eagerly waiting for the album's arrival...

I'm encouraged to know that you had fun yesterday, seen it from the smiles and waves through the little box as well. I felt i was there in a way, thanks to my brothers who made it happen, and also they were 2m covering 3m. Nice. Hmm.. I was kinda crappy over the line, probably due to my overheated head and infected throat. Anyway i'm better now, after a 10hour sleep last night. A few more confinement days for full recovery before i'll be out and hunting for good food again. Maybe the next time i'll organize a cycling trip for ya all. To Malaysia. At last, pre production has started. We're meeting people, getting up demos, working OT, getting up sounds with the Engineer, realigning album directions with the producer, jasmin's grabbing on to vital details and coming up with great A&P plans. This time it would be a blast (I believe so). Make or break..

This one's gonna give the Big Boys up there "a run for their money".

Overall, we're all workin' our best to bring u guys even better music.

With all the people having hopes on us, Won't wanna let anyone down do we?

The most Amazing Cab in SG

Boarding a cab yesterday evening, I was caught by surprise to realize..

1 - The cab provided free access to WIFI (there's a modem onboard with a huge cooler!)
2 - Provided free printing of documents service for passengers onboard (there's a printer just at the backseat, in front of the rear window!)
3 - Universal handphone charger (charge at own risk precaution)
4 - Adjustable LED lights attached to seats, in case it became too dark for passengers to do work on the cab

WOW. Therefore out of curiosity I questioned.

The driver said it wasn't his cab, he was just a relief driver in place of his friend. His friend had a few years earlier thought why not provide these services since he himself loved working on the go, and that his cost for internet subscription and printing would be covered by passengers who would tip for using the services provided.

Examples he quoted :

Airport -
Passenger forgets to bring ticket, can print an E-ticket immediately online. Life saver I must say!

Handphone Low Batt -
I myself would happily tip him for that half hour charge for that vital few moments of being contactable and being able to contact.

WIFI -
There's no reason not to provide the customers with a fixed price paid convenience for himself. How nice of him!

KUDOS to such nice people in Singapore! Maybe mobile companies would turn kind one day and provide us with free communication services. Till then, let's dream on

Hey.. :( felt sad just now as we were leaving MDC! Paiseh leh, we were on company bus(MDC bus) so can't ask the driver to stop..and he was a grumpy driver too! So xin tong that we couldn't come down to chat... mm.. thanks for coming down and waiting k? sigh.. ok let's not talk about sad things, let's talk about happy things. How was the show? I think was quite ok rite? haha.. And here's better news! Let's have a gathering during the june holidays shall we?? Did that cheer u up!? Well it sure did get us excited. 2 yr old band.. within these 2 yrs.. we fought, we sweat (you guys also sweat at outdoor shows not forgetting keke)..

How many more yrs of fighting before we get to make our mark in the scene.. being known for "different" chinese music in a Pop industry and be widely accepted as a norm?

Never dreamt of a MLB concert since Audition 1... never dreamt of doing a concert since i was in my mum's inflated womb. But 2 mths ago we were informed and asked if we would want to take up that challenge (and in wei qi's exam period). Crazy... the concert came to pass though. Wei Qi pulled through. We survived. Did satisfactory for a first try. My speech was kinda.. erhrm.. nervous.. but at least OUR music spoke. No pyrotechnics like Andy Lau.. Just plain O' Music :)

2 yrs ago i could only dream of the band flying overseas to show the chinese world our music.. NOW the dream is getting more visual as the days pass. Inch by inch.. maybe in 2 ys/ 4 yrs? I duno.. Anyways.. Not for fame, Not for fortune, BUT for the love of life.. music.. performing.. Hope This dream materialises.

Time really flies..

My Parents have grown old.. my sis has crossed puberty.. i'm now half man half boy.. 3 of us have been aware of each others' existence, say for 18 yrs? wow. looking back.. so much time has swept by. Its saddening thinking of this.. Not too long later i will too have grey hair ...

4 mths ago.. i dreamt in 10 yrs time i'll save up enough experience and $ to open a music related biz.. with studios and all.. to be near my passion.. and now.. this 10yr later opportunity presents itself 2 mths ago.. in 2 mths time it be up.. doing up a music school with a sincere friend of mine who has been in the biz for yrs. A dream fast forwarded by 10 yrs.

What next?

By the time you guys read these messy thoughts..

We would be jamming out for Monday's Show..

And working out our 3rd album stuffs..

After that what's next for the band?

MAybe its time I start looking pass my wooden box that would be pushed into those flames with my kids collecting my ashes.. Giving Music and love the way I would do.. to their kids..

In the end.. we just turn to dust..

But it aint gonna be dusty I hope before that.. Let me shine :)

The Kindness Movement

It has been quite happening these few days, with interviews, the esplanade and the IMM show.. now the focus and energy would all be spent aligning the stars for the 24th (metaphorically speaking).

It's not always about how with a kind manner we speak , but how kind the true intentions behind the words are. Yet sometimes we accidentally string words into unpleasant phrases that hurt. We may know the words of our own, but other's words may be misinterpreted.
It seems like a life skill to master the art of putting what we mean into words that are interpreted clearly. We're all learning.

As a Band, we believe in being nice, accommodating to whatever we can, whenever we can, doing our best for people within our means. We are true to ourselves and believe in not hurting others.

Let's clarify. We don't mean that we only want to hear the good stuff, but we want to hear everything, critical comments that are constructive, good comments that are encouraging.

We know the hardship you guys go through waiting for us, supporting us and cheering us through the days; and good begets good.. kindness begets kindness.. and hence we are motivated to give you guys more.

We are normal people we have always said, and therefore acclaim the right to feel emotions everyone feels, being, sorrow, anger, happiness and even tears.

In conclusion.. we're giving our best, to not be regretful of not being the best we can be, and to return the kindness and love shown to the Band as a whole.

Thank you for being there for us. Hope you guys can see the bands' heart.

Well, i guess it's not much of a surprise any more rite? haha.. not exactly.. cos there's a surprise inside this surprise, and another surprise within the next surprise! Confused? Good.. So must come and find out the surprise ma.. haha.. Guaranteed surprises when u join us on our little concert about the MLB journey, which is the journey that we share with many - Family, friends, mlbians, colleagues... So, it really is a milestone, to stop and ponder, to be a little nostalgic of the past, and to reveal some of the gaps perhaps. This is celebrating a process, that is still in motion; this interaction between us and all who share the joy in our music. This show is for you all.

You know?! I boarded a random cab in the afternoon. Mr Young Driver and i started chatting (friendly ma). Through the conversation, i learnt that 2 weeks ago, this same driver picked up a random passenger who was my next of kin, from the same location. So qia0 (coincident) YOU KNOW?! There are more than 24000 cabs in Singapore, this particular driver whom i've never met don't live at that area, he was just passing by. The probability of this incident is so super low. So amazing! Haha.

This post is dedicated to my parents, my mum who loves me dearly, and my dad who believes that I can still make it after countless falls.

Was watching a movie.. when a statement from a conversation hit me hard.

"Life's an Occasion. Rise to it."

It's not that I've not been doing that. Ironically, the issue here is that I've been guilty of standing in applause for it for too long a moment, many a times. People generally worry about money, about bread and butter, but people like me would go hungry for passion and merry making music. Who would be standing upright 10 yrs from now? The grounded people building their careers on generic jobs like accountants, lawyers, engineers.. Or people that Rised up to life and paradigms, living a life of passion and joy which may end overnight?

Maybe it'll not me standing. Maybe I woud end up basking at orchard MRT or do some small run-down pub shows for 50 bucks a night, living off maggi mee to save up to pay the rent and a pack of cigarettes... Bittersweet Smiles on my face. Hidden tears on my pillow that would have dried up by the next morning, leaving nothing but faint marks on that pillow case that would have been unwashed off it's countless tears for god knows since when.

On the bright side... maybe it would be me standing, me leaving a legacy for my kids... that I had made it no matter how hard it took me to get the high ground where I would be standing, that I can have the previledge to say to my son, "Look here, Daddy made it through hardwork and belief son, I know you can live your life to the fullest too, live the dreams you dream, that you can get there. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."

I'm not questioning my beliefs, my passion, my love for life.

I just question My Own End Point after. Which of the 2 above it would be.

Not backing out, no no. NOT. I'll Rise to the Occasion of Life as I've been doing so. May it treat me well, as I'll applaud it the best I can, Smiles and Sweat on my face, Thorns and Tears in my eyes. Yes. I will Continue moving forward.

I know maybe this mlb family compared to many other 'fanclubs' is considered very united le(in fact no point comparing cos ours is not a fanclub hor, it's a family!) but no harm improving! like when there are new faces, help to make em more comfortable by intro urself etc, or like this the photo album, work together instead of competing(no point ya? we rather have peace!), and like cooperate with the ICs(which has been gd so far)...things like this la...jialat..i long winded again sigh.

MLB tee for 2008

Hey all, looking forward to see u all this saturday ya? Meanwhile, we saw 2008 pass by without a MLB tee to commemorate the year. So we have been working on it(was fixing it @ Vivo backstage some more leh), and this time, the design arrived rather differently. For the last tee, WQ worked quite independently on it. This round, he wanted the whole team to be involved, so the final design is something that all 3 guys are happy with. Hope that all MLBians will like it, cos it was done for u all. Have contacted the MLB Ics, and they will soon be helping the whole MLB family make their orders for the tees, sizes etc. fyi, the mlb logo is made out of small words that say "i <3 MLB" PLSPLSPLS cooperate with the ICs, they are here to help everyone, so let's help make their job easier ya? MLBians must unite!!!

The design is meant to be more subtle than the previous one, so that MLBians might feel comfortable to wear it for any occasion besides gigs. The base colour is gonna be white again, so that those without this tee can still wear the older design and still blend in with the rest. This is just a graphic preview and is subject to much changes as the design might need to be tweaked due to printing constraints :)

Now now, as for the price of the tee, it is around $9-10, but can only b confirmed after confirming the quantity, and once again, please rest assured that this tee is TOTALLY non-profitable for MLB, we are doing it at cost price, MLB ics will be working closely with us during the project, so we hope this helps everyone, especially with the economy starting on a slightly flatter note.

On a side note, weiqi had some initial ideas for the tee, but since it was too personal from him and it wasn't something Nic and Sam was very comfortable with(it was too lame la the design hahaha, i think u all understand ya?), he shall do it as an individual project for the future, probably launch it in mid year or sumthin ;)

Meanwhile Nic is busy with his personal project(exciting!), Sam is busy with teaching drums (pls support ya?), and WeiQi is back to the graveyard of zombies (but this sem he wants to make a positive change!). And as a band, they are meeting every week, to compose their music, for all MLBians in this family, walking in a positive hopeful spirit towards a third album(let's all have faith) :)

After a long day previously (not posted, if not this post gonna take me till daylight to complete)

12pm meet at church
1230pm pickup to boonlay
1pm reach boonlay for soundcheck.

Now the more interesting part.

1pm is HARD noon. Sun the hottest and brightest. Tentage is like a greenhouse (go research that.. interesting how the design traps heat).

Soundcheck starts.

Perspiring like dogs or hotdogs if u may.

Setup all sui sui. or we think. no prob for first 30 min while waiting for drums to finish mic testing by sound ppl.

They ssay test our lines. At last. Hotdogs become boiled dogs. sweat (water) plus heat.

Keyboard dead. Eg. The "browser" on the keyboard menu appeared differently ....as "Bro"

We know we're bro la but no need like that pls. No need emphasize details at wrong important, crucial events like a freakin sondcheck!

Keyboard now cant connect to mac. no sound. (Mac keep prompting us... "HUI device not found")

HUI aint really know what it means... maybe "Highly Useful Instrument"

Highly Useles instrument? Nah.. It's "Da bomb" Rated online as one of the best... got great awards. Should be ok de.

Dollars are money, but money is not dollars. Gold is money, but money is not gold. How do I explain these apparent contradictions? Simple, there is a one-to-many relationship between money and things we use for money. Referring to dollars as a form of money is technically accurate, but referring to money as dollars is not sufficient to describe all the properties of money — it limits the definition to dollars. Money is anything we use to trade for what we want. It's a store of purchasing power. It's something people either want, or will accept, in exchange for their property or labor. Sometimes money is a physical object, sometimes not. Not all forms of money are equal.

People will always assign different values to different things. People will always be willing trade things they want less for things they want more. Unless people have nothing, they will always be willing to trade something they possess for something they don't. The price is not a numeric figure glued to a box, it's the difference in the perception of utility between that item and what you are prepared to sacrifice. If you have no list there is no way any person or system can satisfy your desires because they would have no idea what to do. If you have a list, find out how many of those items are material and how many are not. If they are all material, you're either an idiot (because you didn't understand the question) or a liar. There is no person with a perfectly balanced existence (health, love, family, emotions, interests, friends, challenges, victories, safety, comfort, hope, skepticism, curiosity, memories, optimism, excitement, etc) because there is no definition of a perfect balance. Your own perceptions of balance are variable and non-quantifiable. What is perfect in the current moment will be imperfect in the next, what is perfect today will be imperfect tomorrow. Experience with these imbalances and fluctuations throughout life and events are what define personality, goals, dreams and desires. There is no way any person or system can satisfy you completely without taking away these flaws that make you human. Thus, you will always be lacking something. It is immaterial whether it's real or just perceived, whether it's persistent or transient, whether it's acknowledged or subconscious. You will be willing to trade, you will offer money, for a price.

Enjoying YiQing and RongMing's company. Little chats with former-fellow-judge Mary. Meeting the backstage technicians and production crew whom you may not see but are all crucial in the show's success. A fulfilling supper, is dinner for me after the show. A routine those days. Memories. I remember.

We 3 had a good time today. I think you all who came did too. Which makes us happier. =)

hey hey! thanks to those who came down today! we had a SUPER crazy day today, morning we dropped by warner's to collect gifts that MLBians had sent (was kinda weird cos we received lots of clothes with the price tag still attached but none of the pressies had indication as to whose it was meant for either), then we reached MDC, and performed and then we rushed to Cathay to attend the premier for Ip Man....

I'm guessing if there's anything u wanna pass to us better to pass us directly, so we know who u are, and not so luan ba, but i emphasise again, dun waste $ on us, most of u students, even if not student, we also feel that if u support us we are more than happy enough le.. just like today, seeing the bunch of u there, made us feel at home!

: Halo mlbians... thank you all who came down to give your support today... wonder if u can tell if we were kinda tired.. yup a busy and tiring week for us 3... today a weird thing happened.. usually my side of the equipment will screw up, but we 3 spent 2 whole weeks fixing it! and today, nic's equipment suddenly refused to speak!?!? 1 in a million chance! ok..maybe 1 in a 100, cos he used it maybe a hundred times at least? during practices?? so why today!? and was it just me or did we sound too soft and like cave men? so it seemed as if sam was playing too loud, but in actual fact, it was the music that was too soft. well we learn so many lessons each time there's some kind of screw up during performances.. and yup, MLB kinda like prone to such stuff.. cos band ma haha.. but well, on the bright side, wonder if u all noticed,but we set up and pack up much faster! yay! we're training to be super efficient in our build/tear down speed, required for certain events etc. and also thus allowing more interaction time with you all!!! after the gig, today we finally unwinded... as a band.... wow, so long since we just relaxed together... had to destress la, running here and there the whole week... so we had some ya kun coffee, then played an hour of "left4dead" haha..then we ate lunch, then donuts... then yup... split up for home..quite a san ren tong xing day. Miss such days le, seems like ever since we've been so busy with the band being sorta an official 'job' we have less of such time together, sometimes it is really sad, cos we are friends to begin with, that was our roots,but in a busy and cruel world, sometimes things can get at you, especially friends, it can be super painful, sleepless nites... but i guess though i missed today's sermon in church bout forgiveness and reconciliation, I do know that forgiveness and openess heals every wound, it can turn a scar into a beatiful birthmark. No matter how bad the damage, true friends can reunite and spur on a whole new and amazing journey. It won't be easy as the photo below..zoom zoom haha..more like traffic lights at every turn, but that's the whole point of the journey, dealing with the hiccups, determining how matured one is, how matured your team is. goodnite ppl, down with a flu, so no choice, have to turn in. cheers to a better tmr..

I miss the stage.. realli so much.. today i just sang (a lil zhao sia forgive me la hor.. reverb was gao gao.. cant hear myself on stage somemore).. BUT.. i felt i let myself and the band down.. i did not "perform". Oh well.. good days and bad.. today was heng heng ok only haha...

BUT GREAT!!! after spending much money... (3 of us added together almost 2k).. so much sleepless nights researching.. 2 days NON-STOP fixing up the rig.. you see us with an improved rig! setup time 5 min.. tear down 5 min.. BUT SUEH SUEH TODAY guitar duno why no sound la.. sobs...BUT we seasoned le.. calm on stage le ba.. paiseh gota wait for us to start.. but the waiting will soon be over once we finalised everything.

Rain water get into my precious shoes also walk. Soak their slippers also walk. In search high and low for stuff we need to buy.. Damn tired, but its worth it. We gotta improve. As usual as usual though i don't wish say as usual, our performance part can't be perfect. Nevermind, we enjoyed the little interaction and photo-taking part. And i think i looked rather silly in most pictures. I was trying to smile (closed mouth smile becos you know la) at the same time controlling myself from laughing out when our steadymama was holding the fork.

It's amazing how time flies.. Been 1 yr 10 mths since i was enlisted. I remember my BMT times.. So much fun i had.. in the dirt.. in my sweat drenched Number 4s.. the stench of my stinkin' helmet.. all this seemed like yesterday.. i remember how crazy it was under the hot sun.. carrying my riffle.. singing army songs "with my riffle and my buddy and me-ee-eh!"... Thinking of all these is squeezing a tear outa the corner of my eye.. i remember the people that were in my life then.. i remember my bunk.. my bed.. the windows.. the metal cupboards and the padlock that guarded it. I remember the vending machine that i'ld go to twice a day minimum to get a cold refreshment.. i remember the pull up bars at the foyer.. i remember the canteen that i had to march there 3 times daily to eat... i remember the route marches - friends cheering "oi! abit more nico! Dun be a pussy buddy! Almost done!" I remember cheering my buddy on too "U okies buddy? Common buddy! tahan awhile only Sat book out le!".. i remember the brotherhood and man-egoistic feel of my platoon and bunkmates. I remember kiwi-ing my boots to an amazing shine...

I remember ever so vaguely my last camp MDC.. the dance studio.. tar black rubber floors.. mirrors on 3 walls out of 4.. 1.5x my own height.. i remember the male changing room.. the light odor of it.. musky.. ever stuffy though all 4 fans kept on... remember the dressing tables.. each man to one.. the steel cupboards that seemed to be our mini storerooms.. the chatter of crazy people.. always kept me occupied and cheerful.. light hearted.. i remember the stressful times which i had to learn dance choreography.. i remember my friends.. whom which we once in awhile clubbed.. danced the daily work stress away.. remember the people who got drunk and talk crap at these occasions making a fool of themselves... i remember the hugs we gave each other once in awhile.. i remember the moody times they had.. i had.. but faded away with each other's company.. i remember the shows we did.. some big.. some small and forgetable.. the 1 min fast changes in between performance items.. remember the quarrels we had and resolved.. All good memories.. nothing bad. I remember people who thought me how to dance.. do makeup.. thought me lil lessons on the entertainment life.. people who thought me more how to treasure people..

All these friends help made a part of who i am now. Wherever u all may be now.. Whatever you all may be doing.. May our paths in life cross.. and if they do.. seeing each other again.. I know it'll be all smiles.. only more.. nothing less.

Hi all, we need YOUR HELP to try and sustain Cheng Shu within TOP 10 on Yes 933 LongHuBang for the next couple of weeks. If possible, please vote as much as you can and push the song up further. do remember that the longhubang results will go towards the results for Singapore Hit Awards at the end of 2009. If you guys wish to see MLB nominated for more awards, please do help and VOTE!

Also, info just in that SJMFJGYX will most probably start playing on 933 by this week, so hopefully we can start voting by next week. If i'm not wrong, we can vote both songs at the same time, one vote for each song. [correct me if i'm wrong] regular listeners of 933, please do us a favour and let everyone know here if SJMFJGYX has started playing, so that we can all start voting for it when the time comes.

Lastly, i'm sure everyone wishes to see MLB being featured on a magazine cover story. We need more response from supporters to let the magazine editors know what we want, so please do write in to the magazines to request for MLB cover stories okay? Magazines include Teens, Teenage, LIME, I-Weekly, U-Weekly etc. Be creative!

We did an interview with I-Weekly today, sure an enjoyable one. In t-shirt and shorts - the best outfit. Comfortable! Seated under the shelters of beautiful Bedok Reservoir. Sun, water, grass, wind. Shiok! Forest Adventure, interesting! How often you get to do this? For the 3 of us, almost never. =)

Another amazing day. More after the jump...

Yesterday night.. Nic went to 2 different locations' ATM - both NO CASH

Nic morn woke up late. Half hr late.

Went to find ATM again.. no cash still.

So gotta wait for a cob with NETS.

2pm supposed meet the WQ and Sam, in the end 2.30 met.

Pick up time was 3.30.

So 1 hr left to setup and test run our entire RIG.

Borrowed 10 bucks from WQ to eat and buy kopi.

Guitar's M-Audio sound card couldn't detect Nic's guitar signal - no guitar, no sound.

Troubleshoot but to no avail.

Time check 3.15.

WQ face turned blue(plus little sleep and school crunch time).

Sam duno what to do. Wanted go home to take his same model sound card.

But could be software issue or Windows issue,

WQ tried to download the drivers to reinstall, but already up to date.

Nic went into escapism - dun want to do the gig le. Haha..

Nic came up with an idea.

Bypassed sound card direct into Guitar rig pedal.

Pick up to VIVO.

Sam had church commitments.

WQ and Nic arrived at VIVO

Soundcheck a silent soundless one. (and the most ‘polite’ sound man we ever met)

Check line. No balancing of volume of individual instruments.

No testing of mics.

Soundcheck overan by 45 min - sound ppl couldn't be bothered with us as we were an extra nuisance and trouble to them (Last min planned performance)

Late for makeup and hair at Icon ‘by Shunji Matsuo’. Late by 40 min.

After this supposed to pick up Sam.

Our bus was late.

Supposed to be at VIVO at 6.45.

Sam to take cab down straight.

Nic & WQ strip tease in the van.

Sam reached VIVO.

WQ & Nic Stuck in a jam at keppel.

Sam to do interviews and sing 3 songs(impromptu) to drag time.

Meanwhile WeiQi and Nic in bus guessing what song Sam is singing..

“Tian shi juan lian??? Or ShiYing? Or or.. maybe? Etc.. LOL...” and the bus is stationary due to traffic.

Time check 7.10.

WQ and Nic (and our dear and strong Veron) alighted the bus took a 10 min brisk walk/run into VIVO.

Sam relieved to see 2 bros arrive.

Setup up equipment.

WQ restart com 2 times - because soundcard "never makan the mac"

At one point of time Nic said “ WeiQi rmbr to sing hor”

The joke is, WeiQi was stoning...and he would have really forgotten to sing if not for Nic’s sentence.

Oh boy... happening day.

But hey, you all enjoyed the performance right? :p

After gig, Nic got urgent family matters, had to run.

sam : Together, 3 of us plus you all (i hope) enjoyed last night. We definitely enjoyed the company of mlbians! Our 2nd time at SHA le.. I was telling myself, we'll just go there, relax and do good show. But when i was seated on the little white stool on stage facing fellow performers and so much more seasoned ones like Eason whom we super respect, i was nervous. Haha. I don't know how to describe totally my feelings, i was BLUR-ed. This man is a wonderful performer. Alone on the big stage, 3 songs he did, in 3 different characters, he brought out perfect vocals fitting to the song in all of them. INSPIRING! Heh.. You know i've always enjoyed canto pop, would have been a bonus if he did one too. And i still know i still know, we've got more more rooms for improvement. So let us work hard together man!!
For now since its a public holiday tomorrow, i'm giving myself a break. Going to JB for a walk later!! See ya there!

nic : Alamak.. i zhao sia.. but anyways.. the stress was darn high yesterday.. all the biggies there.. and we did dangerous arrangements of the songs.. but heng ar.. quite ok la hor... wow.. thanks to all that came.. thanks to all that didnt but watched tebee.. thanks to all that didnt come, didnt watch tebee but wanted to do either or both... got heart can le ma!! Was hard to breathe.. when came off stage i was like woooooooooooooooohoooooooooooo hardugey say say say say!!! erhem! nah.. it was fun.. amazing.. stress.. and i was immediately converted to an Eason Fan yesterday when i saw his performance... It was soulful.. done with the heart.. amazing.. was ARGH!!!! power la he... look at his facial expression can high le.. then after that on stage shoke his hand during closing.. exchanged words.. his encouragement yesterday pushes us to another level.. i mean.. of all ppl that were there.. he mentioned 3 average looking soon-to-become-men.. average performers.. average musicians.. with their simplistic acoustic songs - milubing... to comment.. to remember.. all i can say is i'm touched.. and thank him many-many.

Take a deep breath.. Thank you.. For all the birthday wishes, and your presence yesterday. Even those who couldn't make it, thank you also, we'll see ya another time. Another deep breath..
Yesterday's sound may not have been the best it could, but we really enjoyed performing. =) I've learn that it isn't easy, especially for bands to have a perfect sound. Not an excuse, but we'll always do our best on stage and hope for the best.

nic : Just woke up.. been slping non stop!!...It was amazing... to be able to sign something we really call our own. It really felt great.. Hearing you guys sing.. Hearing the cheers that will resonate in my head for the next decade. It wasn't many people, but the people that were there really screamed their lungs out. The many familiar faces that we didn't see that day were missed.. shan't name them.. but i know deep in my heart they wanted to be there but couldn't make it. We know their hearts were there :) One more qian chang hui to go. We gonna have fun, and hope you guys would have fun with us again, singing, screaming, cheering this humble lil band that you guys have pulled through with for 2 yrs odd and running. Continue to run with us... our muscles are tired, but the spirit ain't weary just yet. We gonna go a long distance before we finally reach our finish line. Hope that there'll never be a finish line till we see "the wooden walls".
weiqi : Great day today. though full of unforeseen hiccups, but super happy and an emotional event for the 3 bros.. and u all (MLBIANS) played a huge role in making this event a success.. really glad u all made the effort to come..this round is a bit short(2songs) but the next one will be much longer(we will request k? heh heh) in fact this round we tried le but becos the event was meant to 'da' the first 2 songs. Even though the turn out was not uber fantastic, but the warmness was there, the family reunion feeling was back ;) and i dunno if u all realised, we were more at ease today (except for the XY$%& hardware failure which caused poor JunLi to try to find for more topics to talk about)..no choice, not enough $$. When we got more $ then we'll buy a more stable sound card ;) Once again, thanks for queuing up, buying the album, singing at the top of your lungs with us.. and most importantly, for showing the love!!! to those mlbians who couldn't make it, don't worry k? we understand that the timing can be quite hard for some studying and some working on sats.. so no worries.. let's see each other for this coming FRI!!! TAKE CARE PEEPS.. and thanks for the cards and gifts!!!

sam: Even though said many times already, i still wanna say THANK YOU, to each and everyone of you who support the 3 of us. At times i'll ask myself, what have we done to deserve such care and concern from you people. Its amazing. I'm really touched..
As i opened up the gifts, i see the effort and thoughtfulness in them. You actuallly get us stuff that are really useful for us. Thank you. And i am truly encouraged by the cards and letters i've received. No worries, i've moved on. I'm not the best person i can be now (in all aspects), i will learn along the way.

Hi mlbians.. been some time since we did a recap of the upcoming events and give ya some fresh updates... first things first, with regards to the radio interview that nite, we were unaware of the interview itself, cos we were only informed when we were having dinner before going up to the studio... we were @ SPH doing interviews for

(implemented by external authorities, man or nature. Gravity says "Lego blocks will fall by my law of gravity!")

-Conscience

(implemented by ourselves "It looks ugly/it is not; i stole a block from my friend to build this, am I $%^&*?")

-A sense of living life by a value system

(Paradigms built like Lego blocks continueously since young "Aha! New block! Aha! New colourful blocks i found! Aha! Let me stack them this way.. nice! No... ugly!.. This way sure fall.. no it won't it will stand! I made the right choice!)

-Implanted habits that have become fixed mindsets

(Lego blocks must be stacked upwards not dioganally or sideways "Up and up! Taller it grows! Sideways? Nah.. Other directions not nice.. upwards make it tall!! hmm... Tried something weird like this back then anyways.. it fell.. try odd directions and structure again?.. sure fall, don't take risk.. Don't waste time.. build it upwards.. sure stand.")

My rule - "The Exception Rule"

(I'm making my Lego building go up and up and up and up, it can only go up. It looks generic, like any other Lego buildings people built around me. Yet I want it different. Can it be? OK!! An exception I will make! I want it built downwards, sideways or sprial while going up at the same time! Anyway it can be rebuilt if i made mistakes! Slowly take this piece out.. dismantle my building a bit, tough... may fail.. but it be worth it yes? If I persist all the way? yea.. But I'ld be mocked at, people will say I'm different, they'll avoid me, say it's ugly though I'ld think it's an artwork I believe in and love.. Or it may turn really out ugly.. redoing's a chore.. hmm...)

Every rule can be overuled and an exception can be made if thought through carefully, NOT breaking personal belief systems and principles (which in them ironically partly consist of other/another set of rules).

Risks and prices to pay of being different are high. The Lego building may collapse while removing that small block which many years of hardwork put in gone down with the Laws of Gravity. People may jeer thinking it's ugly. You may have the most beautiful and unique Lego building in your eyes. Or the direct opposite, you may experience total failure.

Start questioning yourselves.

What do you want.

Rules are man-made. Make your own exception rule today. Be Yourself and express.
